What Play-doh is Not

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

We make a new batch of play-doh each week and occasionally there is a color that is irresistable.  There is the usual ’taste test’  when a child is unconvinced that it might not taste as good as it looks!  I often gently remind a child by simply saying, “Play-doh is not food.”  Annie, age 3 1/2 is sitting at another table seemingly immersed in her drawing but apparently listening to my refrain when she looks up and says, “Play-doh is not a vegetable.”

Spring Break Mini-Camp: Adventures en plein air!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Looking for something to do during Spring Break? Join us for five creative days of Spring Break Mini-Camp, Monday-Friday, April 6-10.

Come investigate buzzing bugs, young plants, and flowering trees as we roam the Fort Mason Community Garden, overlooking the Bay. The sky’s the limit as we dabble in sun prints, charcoal, watercolor, and more.  Ages 6 to 11, 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Younger ones are invited to a 2-hour Art Studio class each morning, exploring a wide range of materials, such as printmaking, drawing and collage - as well as the painting wall and playdough table! We’ll end each class with a snack and a story. Ages 3 to 5, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

RSVP: (415) 771-0292. See you in the garden!

Uncapped

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

A child wonders aloud, “Why do pencils not have caps”?  She then answers her own question. “Because they have no juice in them!”
