Speak Back

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The previous week, a child temporarily lost her voice due to a cold.   She communicated in a barely audible whisper.  Today, a boy notices her vocal abilities and says, “Hey, she got her speak back!”

Referencing Time

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I enjoy listening to the unique phrasing that children deliver during conversations and exchanges in the studio.  Time frames of when something occurred is often stated without naming a day of the week. One child asked another, “When did you see him?”  Shin, age 5, answers, “The other day before the day of yesterday.”

Reckoning of the floor

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Our studio floor is splattered with paint drops from months of activity. With each new session, we have the  tiles cleaned.  Christopher, age 4, upon seeing our floor devoid of paint drops, approaches the painting wall looking downward. He haltingly steps toward his paper and says, “I hardly recognized the place!”
